Induction

An EDI self-assessment checklist for use when preparing induction materials.

This self-assessment checklist aims to ensure that the induction process aligns with MED’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Regularly revisiting and updating this checklist will support ongoing improvement in these areas.

Values:

  1. Use induction as an opportunity to showcase the EDI values of your department and to set expectations for trainees and students to adhere to these values.

  2. If available provide any updates on progress relating to EDI, have any changes been made in the department since last induction?

Accessibility:

  1. Induction programs should consider different delivery styles and use techniques, formats, and language for inclusivity.

  2. Handbooks and other materials are available in various formats, such as digital versions which can be viewed or listened to in a format suitable for the user.

  3. Personalised elements of induction are considered based on individual needs.

Commitment to Promoting EDI

  1. Promote continuous EDI learning with signposting to relevant resources

  2. Promote information about support network groups for underrepresented individuals

  3. Promote information about escalating concerns

Due to the nature of meeting new people at induction there will be a mix of different ideologies, characteristics and beliefs. When meeting "new starts" be curious, listen and learn from each other without creating judgements. Diversity is valued.
