Simulated emergency situations helps when it happens in real life
Foundation Year 1 Simulation Session
NHS Lothian is immensely proud of its FY1 Simulation Programme available for all FY1 doctors working within the Health Board, free of charge. Designed in 2012, this course is supported by the Director of Medical Education, the Postgraduate Dean and the Associate Postgraduate Dean for the Foundation Programme.
The course is run as 3 separate half day sessions over the Foundation Programme One year, from induction (SIM1) and then followed by another two (SIM2 and SIM3) throughout the year. Sessions 2 (SIM2) and 3 (SIM3) are in high demand and positions in specific sessions are bookable via Tutorial Booking System (TuBS).
Curriculum Mapped
All sessions have been mapped directly to the Foundation Curriculum and are designed to help you in your first year as a doctor.
Once attended, simply print off your certificate from TUBS and add it to your portfolio.
Real and Tangibly Helpful
A recent evaluative study of FY1 doctors who have participated in this programme have reported a tangible increase in confidence and and positive impact on clinical practice as an outcome. You will find this programme to be really helpful to your practise.
Enjoyable and Safe
We know that simulation can feel stressful. So we go to great lengths to create what we hope you will find a safe and enjoyable atmosphere when you come along.
Tea and coffee. Confidentiality and support.
