General Practice and Community settings
General Practice and Community sites are essential for delivery of high quality patient centered care. In NHS Lothian we have a large number of GP training practices alongside Community sites providing medical education. These sites provide incredible opportunities to learn and develop a wide range of skills, in particular communication skills, understanding comorbidity and polypharmacy, understanding the importance of continuity, alongside how to work effectively within an MDT.
Community placements are exciting and rewarding environments and we look forward to welcoming you to the team. Whether you’re a Medical Student, FY2 in General Practice or community site or a GPST during a hospital attachment, you should be able to find key information on the MED website. We’re always looking to further improve the training environment and trainee experience so please do reach out and we can work together to put improvements in place.
The interface.
Time spent in General Practice or Community settings are an opportunity to see the vast skill set that the Primary care team have alongside understanding the challenges and pressures faced. It is essential we are respectful of colleagues and work better together, whilst improving respect across the interface. Below is a film for Doctors in Training Induction where colleagues across the interface discuss these issues.
