Turas Learn

Mandatory training for all medical staff can be found on TURAS Learn. This page gives an overview of the contents and how to access them.

 
 

Getting started

To access medical TURAS Learn modules:

  1. Log into TURAS

  2. Click on Learn tab on your dashboard

  3. Paste this address into your browser: Medical and Dental | Turas | Learn and add to favourites

  4. Medical and Dental will now stay on your Learn homepage in your favourites. You can access all relevant board and medical resources from this tab

If pasting the address into your browser did not work you can alternatively put 'Medical and Dental' into the search box and then pick the option which has 'NHS Lothian medical learning site' underneath it. Once you've selected the page you can favourite as above.

 
 

Understanding the modules

 

Core Mandatory Learning

All clinicians, including Clinical Fellows, Locums Appointed to Service and those employed through Staffbank, must complete these mandatory Turas Learn modules:

  • Consent and Capacity

  • Introduction to Equality, Diversity and Human Rights

  • Lothian: Adult Support and Protection (advanced)

  • Lothian: Conflict Management

  • Lothian: Doctors Induction Lothian: Doctors Induction

  • Lothian: Fire Safety Lothian: Health and Safety

  • Lothian: Information Governance (IT security; data protection and confidentiality; records management)

  • Lothian: Public Protection (foundation)

  • Management of Aggression (core skills)

  • Moving and Handling (module A)

Most clinicians must also complete the following modules:

  • Lothian: IRMER (any doctor that requests Radiology)

  • Breaking the chain of infection (FY or new to NHS Scotland)

  • Why infection prevention and control matters (FY or new to NHS Scotland)

  • Lothian: Basic Life Support (Adult) - must be completed every 24 months (unless up to date ALS certificate)

 
 

Service or Specialty specific tabs

Whilst the mandatory training for some specialties will be finished once the Medical Core Mandatory Training is complete, other areas and tasks require additional modules. These have been divided into 5 tabs:

  • Acute services (Adult)

  • Acute and Community services (Children)

  • Mental Health Services

  • General Practice (including LUCS)

  • Physician Associates

If you are working in these areas you need to complete the relevant modules.

Of particular note:

HEPMA Prescribers e-learning You can only be issued with a HEPMA password once this module is completed. (Exception FY1 doctors who have face to face HEPMA training)

Blood Transfusion modules Must be completed by all doctors involved in the blood transfusion process from sample collection to delivery and monitoring.
