Annual & Special Leave
Annual Leave Requests for Trainee Doctors
Trainee doctors annual leave is requested 6 weeks prior to starting their rotation with General Medicine. We endeavour to allocate as much specific leave as requested but with many trainees requesting similar days/weeks it is sometimes not possible due to the flow of the rota and pattern.
It is your responsibility to look for swaps and approach the rota master with your proposed plan to ensure compliance.
LAS/PA’s & Spec Doctors Annual Leave Requests
Please request your annual leave at least 6 weeks prior to your preferred dates. Please refer to attached link to flowchart which shows how to request this
Medical/Dental Appointments
· Request leave from Rota Master to attend your medical/dental appointment in advance
· Confirm time of appointment and estimated return
· Let your team know that you will unavailable for a short time
We understand medical appointments are difficult to arrange but if you are able to organise these in your own time this would be helpful. Routine GP and dental appointments should be arranged for non-working days or at the beginning or end of shifts if possible.
Special Leave
The Special Leave Policy aims to provide a supportive and person-centred response when everyday arrangements break down, or urgent and unforeseen situations arise. Employees have a statutory right to a reasonable amount of time off to deal with emergencies affecting family and dependants. The Special Leave Policy provides the framework to let this happen.
This includes:
· Carers Leave
· Compassionate Leave
· Domestic Emergencies
· Civic and Public Duties
· Child bereavement
Please endeavour to contact the Rota Master as soon as you are able to let us know of your absence due to special leave. We will ask the reason and expected duration of your request.
For further guidance and information please see the NHS Intranet pages on special leave.
New Parent Support Leave
An employee is entitled to take up to 2 weeks of new parent support leave, which does not affect their contractual rights. They must be the spouse or civil partner, partner, or nominated carer of a mother who gives birth to a child. Otherwise, they must be the biological father of the child.
Please contact your Rota Master/Management Team to discuss your leave within your guidance timeframes.
