Sick Leave

Medical Staff Sickness and Absence Reporting

There will be instances where staff are unwell and are therefore unable to come to work. It is imperative that the team is notified as soon as possible to ensure cover can be provided. Employee’s should call in themselves (texts, e-mails or telephone calls from relatives is not acceptable, apart from in exceptional circumstances).

We have a duty of care to all our staff, and it is therefore imperative that all absences, regardless of the reason or duration, are authorised and logged appropriately.

The safety and wellbeing of us all is a shared responsibility and we would therefore ask that if you are aware that a colleague is absent from work, but they are scheduled to be on shift, that you contact us urgently.

The rota administrators/service management team will be responsible for following up any unexplained absence. This may include contacting your NOK/emergency contact if we are unable to reach you. If we are still unable to contact you, the service management team, consultant or most senior colleague on shift may take the decision to contact Police Scotland to ask for a welfare check to be carried out to your home address.

Please be aware of out of office messages, these will direct you to the most appropriate person.

WhatsApp should not be used to alert us of your sickness please use the proper channels.
