Emergency Medicine

The specialty of Emergency Medicine is always varied and dynamic. In NHS Lothian this unique specialty has a number of additional attractions.

The Emergency Medicine Research Group of Edinburgh (EMERGE) strongly believe that research should be seen as part of providing excellent clinical care. This group aims to co-ordinate departmental research activity in order to facilitate and optimise research and minimise disruption to normal clinical practice.

Our EM Consultant trainers have a wide range of research, education and sub-specialty interests including pre-hospital care, ambulatory care and frailty.

NHS Lothian has Major Trauma Centres at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and a supra-regional Plastic Surgery and Burns unit at St. John’s Hospital.
