The aim of this site is to provide information about the General Surgery Programme and subspecialties in Edinburgh and SE Scotland deanery.

General Information
Units and specialties
SE Scotland deanery covers the following units and specialties:
Western General Hospital, Edinburgh: Colorectal (including tertiary referrals for sarcomas, pouch surgery and exenterations) and Breast surgery.
Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh: OG, HPB, Vascular, Transplant and Endocrine surgery. The OG unit provides tertiary services for resectional and complex benign disease including bariatric surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. The transplant unit performs kidney, pancreas, pancreas islet and liver transplant and is responsible for providing the national organ retrieval service for Scotland and NI.
Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, Borders General Hospital, Forth Valley Hospital Larbert & Dumfries and Galloway: General Surgery including Colorectal, UGI and Vascular surgery.
Teaching
Regional registrar teaching is delivered all day on the last Friday of every month. This is currently being delivered via Teams. If you have any problems accessing material or the group please contact Vicky Banwell via email at victoria.banwell@ed.ac.uk

Setting up an MD or PhD can take several years and requires sign off from the TPD and deanery approval before coming out of programme. Links to the following organisations below give details about funding opportunities and academic pathways for clinicians.
