Returning to Full Time or changing LTFT %

Foundation doctors

Once committed to LTFT training, foundation doctors are bound, within reason, to maintain that status for at least one calendar year (August - August). This is due to the complex nature of Foundation rotations which cannot be easily amended.

The process of increasing/decreasing or reverting to full time requires you to complete a Form D (found on the Deanery website), unless you already specified your plans to change your % on your initial form A, when applying to go LTFT. Form D needs a counter signature from your TPD. All health boards require 3 months notice.

You will once again need to contact your college to request a recalculation to your CCT date.

Good housekeeping is essential!

Keep a note of the dates you changed your LTFT% because these will be useful when calculating your pay band as a Consultant. When you start as a Consultant following full time training, you enter the Consultant pay scale from the bottom. If you started following LTFT training, you will enter the training on a higher rung. Quite how long depends on the duration by which your training was extended.
